Default Rough Starting Issues

Good afternoon everyone,

So this problem began last week. When I went in to work I noticed the Rover was struggling to start. Once it got going it was fine. I noticed the same thing on the way home that evening so once back home I tried cranking it a couple times and it would just click at me with no attempt to turn over.

I figured my starter was bad so I replaced it. It seems to have helped in that now I can get it to start. It seems to have troubles still with cold starts though and the RPM seems to take a couple moments to stabilize out. I was planning on getting the battery tested to see if maybe that was the cause for the struggling start.

Fast forward to today and when I cranked the car it started up only to have the RPM drop and it died. I was able to get it to start by cranking and pressing the accelerator.

I don't have a check engine light currently. Anyone have any thoughts? This is my daily driver so I'd like to get her back running/starting reliably.

Thanks all.

Have you cleaned the MAF, throttle bore/plate and checked for vacuum leaks like at the PCV?

I pulled of the MAF and cleaned it but I didn't see any obstructions there. I did my best to get inside and clean the throttle bore plate as well. Any tips since I could only access it from the one side?

I noticed the vacuum lines that lead off the cruise control actuator and tee off from a line behind the firewall had cracks so I trimmed them and reattached but none of this seemed to have any affect. As soon as the engine gets to operating temperature it wants to die at idle.

The cruise control hasn't worked since I bought it so I know there are vacuum issues, but this is completely new and didn't happen until I replaced the starter. Where and what is the PCV?

The cruise control vacuum comes from a pump not the engine. It doesn't effect idle.

Check fuel pressure. Check voltage at pump ( under mat in back, thru precut hole in floor). Fuel filter in back on frame on right side behind right rear tire.

In trying to trouble shoot the PCV for vacuum issues I pulled this hose and found this. It seems to me like the oil separator here is completely fouled and needs replacing.

Thoughts?

Turns out it was just a weak battery. Replaced it and now she runs great.
