Default Rover tranny no go

A couple days ago my Disco started shifting odd. As I was traveling down the road, 50+ mph, I was having to push the throttle down further to maintain speed. I came to a stop sign and when I took off it accelerated extremely sluggishly, and took longer than usual to reach 50 and was shifting up faster than normal. I got to a convenience store as soon as I was able to and called for my dad to bring his car hauler and pick me and the disco up. When I tried backing out of the parking space to move it up onto the trailer it would lurch and die when I shifted into reverse. I was luckily on a slope so I just let it roll back in neutral and tried shifting it into drive and once again it just lurched and died. Now when I say it lurches and dies it reminds me of a manual transmission when you dump the clutch without hitting the gas. Now I can put it in 4L and it won't die but it still lurches bad. Talked to my transmission guy today and he said he'll look at it and if he has to completely rebuild the tranny it'll be $1800. I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips on if this is the tranny, the torque converter, t-case, or anywhere else I should look before taking it to my transmission guy? I was also wondering if anyone could tell me if $1800 for a complete tranny rebuild is worth it? Thanks in advance for your help, like I said I'm pretty sure it's the tranny but I just want some other opinions. Also I just did a fluid and filter change about a week ago if that helps any.

Have you checked fuel pressure?

Yeah fuel pressure is good at idle and can't exactly check at anything above idle unless it's in park or neutral but I did run it up through the rpm range and the fuel pressure was good. Now I am having to replace the tps because it's bad. Would the tps cause this issue?

If the truck engages and maintains speed with throttle applied, it definately sounds like the TPS. I went through 2 tranns with the bucking or irratic transmission engagement with sympton cleared up by pushing throttle pedle past a "cruising position" but the TPS had a dead spot where otherwise the trans would know to stay engaged. Change TPS before spending the money on a trans.
