Used the Disco for a DD for a couple years and decided enough was enough. I really love the tank but after thousands of $'s of repairs and $200+ a week in high octane fuel decided to let it rest.

The good news it is resting fully functionally and in good shape. My concerns now is doing what's best for the Disco. I don't want to sell it, I actually have a strange love for the White Rhino and plan on keeping it forever just like my 06 M3. My DD is now a Honda Accord, the first sane purchase I've made in a long time.

So suggestions would be appreciated on what I should do to keep it from dying while it rests. I plan on driving it only for minimal miles once or twice a month. It's full of non ethel fuel and sitting on fairly new tires.

I'll be looking into some off road trails local to our area to shake it around a bit.

 

I would try to drive or at least run it once a week engine up to temp.

I would also move it to avoid flat spots, if you really plan on not driving then some staybil in the tank run it so injectors don't stick

Check all fluids for water contamination , once you sit the water and oil willfinialy Trey to desperate and start eating bearings and gears

Unhook the ultragauge it will draw down the battery, or just unhook the battery


Just my .02 from storiing cars over the years, also be sure the roof drains are clear and try to not park on grass / dirt moisture comes up from the ground into the vehicle and frame

 

Most of this seems like overkill to me if he plans to drive it once a month or so. For long term storage (1 year or more) I would agree and probably pull the battery, but for a truck that gets used occasionally it's not needed. I converted my DI to a trail truck years ago. Which means it sits in the garage unused about 340-350 days a year. I constantly work on it so it does get started every couple of months but will typically sit from Dec to April and only get started occasionally to test something or recharge the battery. During the rest of the year it gets wheeled about every couple of months, sometimes twice in a month and sits the rest of the time. I've never had any issues with it or required any special treatment.

If you have extreme cold where you are maybe make sure everything is weatherized.

 

If you're going to run and move it a couple times per month, you shouldn't have to do a whole lot. I have a couple antiques that I garage from late Oct - late May, all I do is change all the fluids before hibernation, over-inflate the tires slightly, stabil, and put a trickle charger on the battery. No issues yet and it's been a lot of years

 

I had the same feeling for my D1 that i owned for 14+ years.
I decided to give it to my nephew for his 18th birthday.
He agreed to give it back if he doesn't want it anymore.
Makes me fell better to have someone use and appreciate it then to just sot there and be a rust bucket in 5 or 10 years.
