Default "service engine" vs "check engine"

I'll get around to reading code in a couple of days to figure out what my truck thinks is wrong...

The question is... What does the SEL mean? am I risking grave injury to the vehicle driving it with the SEL?

it seems to run just fine. No roughness, no misfires, no overheating (and it was 95 deg today and the A/C didn't bother the engine temp one bit.

It means you hit some predetermined mileage counter and they want you to cough up some money to land rover to check some stuff.

I bet there is a sticky on how to turn it off.

Thanks Jafir. I had a vague memory that the SEL was basically a 'shake-down' light, but couldn't confirm after a search on this forum (or I just wasn't searching effectively). Oddly, I have some 83k+ on the odometer, not a 'round' number.

What's even weirder is that the numbers are supposed to be 52500 and 105000 or something like that. Maybe someone reset it early or later or something.

Early in its life I used to let the dealership maintain it. I suspect you are correct.
