The body colored end caps and some extra wood and chrome are about all that separates a LSE from a SE. I don't like them and it looks like "Best4x4" doesn't either. Best4x4, that is a fine looking truck but you've got to be honest, you didn't retain much of what makes it an LSE (on the exterior).

Mechanically the rear A/C seems to create more trouble than it is worth and often people are looking to remove it.

Couple of things set the LSE apart from the rest. Like Walt said body colored bumper end caps, mirrors, chrome bumpers, upped interior trim level, the front seats are different (better made) and the wheels. Honestly it's the "Lux" of early Discos. What makes it unique is that it was only offered for one year. It's the Liberace of the D1 line up - gay. You bought a gay D1 Shifty.

I'm getting a kick out of this thread. A good friend of mine bought a Range Rover LSE back in 1992. That year it was the most blingy version. It had the special Lightstone leather interior with Sorrel Brown piping, the stereo was upgraded, the bumpers were chrome, the wood trim was different (lighter) than the burled walnut (American Walnut or something like that) and it had a hideous chunk of wood on the transfer case shifter that looked utterly out of place.

Nevertheless, whatever missteps were made in that limited edition (offered in Cornish Creme or Brooklands Green), they pale in comparison to the dressed up Barbie LSE Discovery. The Range Rover kept the same black end caps and mirrors. It never went for the body colored AMG effect that was so common in the 1980's. The interior on the Range Rover LSE, with the exception of the awful shift ****, was a really nice upgrade from the more conventional interior colors and the wood offered enough of a distinction (not unlike the Mediterranean Poplar in the '93 LWB) to set it apart in an appropriate way.

I guess my point is, Land Rover did the LSE trim package well on the Range Rover but the package on the Discovery was a horrible attempt to dress up a good truck in an atrocious prom dress.

 

The LSE aka The Golden Movement" is dangerously close to being coming a parts car for a black SE I found with a beat up interior. If I had the time or space I'd pull the drive train out. Its dealer serviced and looks like its never ridden on so much as a dirt road.

Nothing's for sure yet. If anyone would like to save it from it's doom lemme know. I'll let it go cheap. I'd rather it go on living whole. With only 100k on the clock it would be a shame. The rear air and 7 seats are dooming it for me. Since I fill them full of camping gear it's eating up previous cargo room. That and I hate the color. I go back and forth between hating it and merely disliking it some. Its like trying to squint at the only girl left in the bar at last call..."should I take her home?..."

100% sure I'm not gay, but my woodcote green LSE is BADASS. I love the interior (true 50th Anniversary Edition with darker seats). Yes the ARB isn't chrome, but I didn't take the LSE out of my LSE.

The one thing I like about the LSE is the piped leather seats and the Boost wheels. The piping upped the interior to a more classic look. Does anyone here own a D1 in excellent condition? Ask yourself this, how many D1's do you really see around in good or above good condition? Buy a beater for a trail pig but hey, to each his own.
