did it for a buddy. broke the rear shaft on the maiden voyage. It only has a Flowmaster delta 40 on it and it is sick. I should have taken some pics, or a vid with it floored. I took a kid out for a ride to test it and he literally peed a little. I shouldnt say anything, though. I did too... Really easy. He had the mounts and everything. I just dropped it in and wired the ECU. All gauges were aftermarket and it was just a matter of tying them in. The GM ECU got zip tied to a bar and I was honestly shocked at how easily it went in and everything worked.

Next time I see it I will take a video...

Hmmmm......could it be done on a Disco as easily? Is that the same 350 swap I see going on all the time on the Jeep forums? I haven't paid much attention as my Jeep engine only has 65K on it so no swap in the near future. Very interesting thought about the Disco though. If it moves a 1/2 ton chevy pick-up well it would probably move the Disco pretty well too. Wouldn't be underpowered then I wouldn't imagine.

it is the new 327. It would rip the drivetrain right out of a Disco. It might fit, but it will eat a diff for breakfast.

Bummer. Oh well. It was a thought. Guess with a rover you are pretty much locked into the engine it came with. Or spend 10K or more for a swap.

I am waiting on someone to come out with just the crank and rods for a 4.6. Essentially the same block. Just re-build and stroke a 4.0. shouldn't be more than a couple of grand.. I would be curious about a BMW 4.4 supercharged, or one of the new 5.0's in the LR4. The LR4 is crazy fast and you have pedal for days...

oops, looks like the pistons have different size bowls to tune for compression ratio... have to swap pistons as well...

Nope, they only have a 215 and 300 crank. I did check and roverland has a crank, rods, and pistons for around $1K. I don't have the funds to try it yet, but I may someday. That is cheap for those parts..

Of coourse it does, the oil pressure light switch is in the oil supply rail before the main gallery, ie the first place the oil goes. If the light goes out that quick it's proabably becuase it isn't flowing any further and pressure backs up straight away.

Not true...

Drop a EM617 (Turbo) Mercedes engine in. There is a kit coming available soon in the 3k range that will include everything to do the swap, mating it to the current trans etc. It's even corrects the shift points to work correctly with the em617 engine (5 cylinder, 85 or older 300D have them plus a host of other pre 86 Mercedes)
You'll get better milage, lose the electronics, the engines are plentiful (I have found a half dozen around me in the 300-500 price rage complete and are rated for 500k.

I'm seriously considering it for my 96 for a couple reasons...

1. My current engine has almost 200k on it so it's due for a rebuild.
2. I'm having sensor issues (that TPS and IAVC)
3. While the age of the other sensors/maf etc it's really only a matter of time till they are going to have to be replaced...
4. Diesel is about the same cost as premium around me.
5. the Em617 will run on just about anything you pour into it... including strait vegetable oil...
6. If I'm going to spend the money to put this truck back on the road I want another 15 years out of it minimum. The body and interior are perfect, zero rust so it a good candidate.
7. Some of the upgrades I have already done like the headers and cats and mufflers I can simply swap over to my 97.
8. It's a bolt in kit, requiring no fabrication on my end.
9. Im not a speed demon so having a 70-75 mile per hour top speed would be perfect for me.
10. Parts to work on the em617 cost no more and in a lot of cases are cheaper than rover parts.
11. having the original 4.0 215 out of the 96 give me a chance to rebuild it, slowly and correctly so I have a ready to go replacement engine for my 97.

The kit will be utilizing a different Turbo that the stock one, and also a GM power steering pump.

All in all, for 4k I could be running a diesel .

So NGA, who will be producing these kits and when will they be available. If they actually do that it would be a pretty cost effective swap. I don't know anything about that mercedes engine. What are the specs as far as torque and HP? What other details do you have about the swap kit?
