Anyone have a good source for replacement front suspension parts? I just had the front end aligned on my D1 after having some 2" lift coils and longer shocks installed. They highly recommended replacing the "tie rods and sleeves", because "excessive rust covered with undercoating, already has broken bolts." Not sure exactly what these are, but the mechanic who did the work described them bascially as two long rods, one on each side of the front axle, with some other parts connecting them. Said they might come as one assembly, but if not, they're still easy enough to replace.
While I was poking underneath the front end, I see where the sway bar is (and the steering stabilizer!), in relation to the front drive shaft, so yeah, I think that's gotta go, probably along with the rear sway bar too. I'll probably get those removed when I get these "tie rods and sleeves" replaced, so if anyone knows a good source for these susp parts and a steering stabilizer, holla!

Tom R - looked thru all 25 pages of your thread, didn't find any reference to these suspension parts...(nice thread BTW!)
Just looked thru Amazon, and I have to ask this question: a "tie rod assembly" and a "track rod" assembly are two different things, yes? One goes on the front of the axle, and the other goes behind it? Those are the pieces that the shop said I need to replace.

One is left thread one right thread, you need 3 of 1 type , and 1of the other, i am out of state so can't look it up
the actual bars are fine unless bent
If after them you have steering issues may need to adjust swivel preload

I took a look thru the workshop manual pdf file I have, and from what I can tell, the "track rod" assembly (includes the rod and ends) is the one that goes BEHIND the front axle, with the bracket to anchor one end of the steering damper. The "tie rod" assembly (rod and ends) is the one that goes in FRONT of the axle, has a bracket for the panhard rod(?), and has clamps at the ends to adjust the alignment? I ordered a new steering damper, and once I get confirmation that a "tie rod assembly" and "track rod assembly" are in fact two different things, I'll get those ordered as well. Once I have everything, I'll get them installed, and have the front sway bar removed, since I can definitely see the front drive shaft hitting it off-road.
So if someone can confirm that a "tied rod assembly" and "track rod assembly" are in fact two separate things, I'll press on...

3 right hand thread needed. 2 for the track rod and 1 for the cross rod. 1 left hand thread needed for the opposite end of the cross rod.
The track rod is the one behind the axle and it has both a "cross rod" and a "drag link" and as an assembly it's called the "track rod". Nice eh? Confused yet? This is the one that gets adjusted for toe in/out.
The cross rod is the one that goes from the drop arm of the steering box to the passenger side (NAS) swivel pin housing and is one singular rod, not two pieces that screw together like the track rod.

the tracking rod connects the 2 wheels together.......attaches to the back of each spindle assy and has an adjustable ball joint ( tie rod end) on each end.....this would be adjusted to allign the front wheels
the drag link .....also has adjustable ball joints on each end(newer models) and connects the steering box to the front right hand spindle assy....this would be adjusted to center the steering wheel during the allignment process....

Well, I played it safe and ordered a new "track rod" assembly and a "tie rod" assembly, and already ordered a new steering damper. Got them thru Amazon, should have them by Friday, and I'll get them installed and the front sway bar removed. Just keeping my fingers crossed nothing else happens between now and then, lol...(getting a new headliner put in on Monday, but that doesn't count!)
