Spark plug recommendations - not NGK/NTK?
Hi,
Just got my 8mm wires today, and before I install them I would like to change my plugs (funny they threw a p1316 code the day before the wires arrived).
I am on my 2nd set of NGK/NTK plugs in a year, and was thinking of trying the Bosch +4
What is the correct part number? I searched and found two part numbers, but both seem the same:
Bosch (4418) FGR8DQP Platinum
Bosch (4501) FGR8DQI +4
If there are other recommendations that you have, please post them with the part number. Heading into my local Napa, and Canadian Tire today.
Thank you

Platinum's etc. are a waste of money. I've always used whatever copper plugs are cheapest. Running Autolite at the moment I think.
A lot of people even report problems using the fancy plugs in a D1.

antichrist - how often do you replace your plugs?
I just put 4,000 km on the second set of NGK's, and noticed cylinder 5 plug was sludgy but not wet (last time it was), since switching to a 15w40 rotella as I previously had a synthetic 5w40.
I went with the Champion copper plugs part 322 (forget the long part number).

I ran the cheap-o copper NGK plugs in my 1996 D1 and it ran fine. It's unlikely the plugs are causing your problems, assuming they are the correct application, in my opinion anyway. There was a guy that posted a while back that was an employee of NGK and he said that NGK actually makes the spark plugs for a lot of other manufacturers. NGK brand plugs are the OE plugs in my LR3. I ran the OE champions in my 03 D2 because at the time I was too dense to find an NGK application for the 4.6L engine. I had platinum NGK plugs in my 99 D2 and it ran smoother than my 03.
But in the end, it's your car and you can run whatever plugs you want. Assuming they are the correct application you'll probably not notice much one way or another. Except for the cheapest Bosch Platinums. They suck.

When they need it. Averages maybe every 10-20,000 miles.
I really doubt sludge on the plugs is because of the plugs.

i have been running NGK Copper Cores for about the last 35k miles. Haven't had any issues with the plugs. I did run Autolights for about 500 miles and they where HORRIBLE. Gummed up pretty quickly. Ill continue to run NGK's in my truck, i have had a good run thus far.
