Stalling Questions
Hello there!
I have been having some issues for some time now. THe car runs really good on some days on other day is runs like crap. We had a couple damp weather days and it ran really rough, sputtering, really low rpms. I had been having suspicions that the mass airflow sensor was going bad, due to reading others posts with similar issues.
Here is what happened the last time I tried to drive it. While idling it would seem to run fine, when I put a load on it in reverse it sputtered and did not move, had to feather the gas pedal to keep it going. Took awhile to clean things out so to speak and it ran good. The next couple days I tried to start it and nothing. People are mentioned something about a crank sensor, what purpose does that serve, and is that something easy to check. Thanks for any help you can give or if there was already conversations on this I could not find point me in the right direction. Thanks
Josh

If the problem is connected with damp conditions, as in rain, then check the ECU for corrosion and water intake. Wet ECU is a common issue. If it's not damaged the ECU can be sealed with silicone.
Rusted grounds can cause problems as well.
Crank position sensors tend to fail as they heat up.
A malfunctioning IACV can also cause unstable idles. The solution is to clean the IACV bores or replace the unit if damaged.
First I'd go to a parts store and use their OBDII scanner to pull any codes it might have. Write them down and report back.

And while they have the scanner hooked up to your truck ask them to check the throttle position readings (it will be a % above 9 normally ) that should change smoothly when gas pedal pressed. But I'm with expert ET, problem during wet weather points at ECU, under the hood on passenger side fenderwall.
Thanks guys, problem is right now it will not start period now, so I will have to tow to get the codes. I am going to get to the ecu and try and clean the contacts and see what happens.
Would any of my fuses be blown, because none of the fuses blew yet?

I am confused when I look in rave at the electrical diagrams there are two different ECU pictures one that says for 96 and I am guessing one for 97.
I have a green box with 4 tabs on it and two ports going into it? Is that the ECU, if so I pulled it apart and looked at everything and there is no corrosion of any sort, if not is it the box that is bolted in with all the fuses under the glove box? After I put the negative back on the battery I notice that the hazard lights are continuously blinking. The only thing I could do to get rid of it was to pull the fuse. Still no starting though. HELP
I am running out of options for my small or next to no knowledge of electrical issues.

I'll be interested in seeing how this unfolds...
I let mine sit overnight and then it restarted..
The Vehicle ECU is under the hood on the Passenger side fender well..
The alarm ECU is deep inside the dash.. That's where the immobilizer lives..
I'm going in to jumper mine out ASAP....
I have that green box too.. Not sure at this particular moment what it is.. It might be the receiver for the fob...I need to look that up as well..

Go rent a scanner, some parts store will do this and charge it out on your credit card, when returned they will credit it back. Alot cheaper then having it towed. Get the fault code number and get back to us.
I believe there is a pic of the ecu in the rave. On a D1 it's under the hood on the passenger side.
Battery, then some relays including the big black multi-function relay then the ecu with the big multi wire connector on it. Can't miss it.
