Interesting. Was that with or without the A/C on?

In stop/go traffic your temp rose to 220. Is that normal? Is that 'safe'?

If that is all I can expect out of a new radiator then I'll stick with what I have which yields the same results as you observed.

Thanks for the data. It may raise more questions but hard data is valuable.

yeah AC full blast
I should mention Im replacing my fan cluch soon as I beleive it is not operating 100% - So I will have more absolute results after thats in
but in the mean time...
drove around for and hour today and its even hotter out
seems to stick around 195 to 205 normal driving and peak to 220 when under load or stop and go - but at idle goes back down
from what I have found 195 to 220 is normal temps

Throwing my .02 in here since I've been through cooling issues on both my trucks

Personally, I get very nervous when I see a 2 in front of the temp..

D1: Running a 180* T Stat with jiggle pin removed, new $190 eBay radiator - Truck stays at 182-188 while driving, occasionally will reach the low 190's at a long light

My only cooling issues is a gradual rise in temp (up to 215*) while sitting with the AC on for 30+ minutes, ambient temps are 95+ in FL right now

Reason for letting the truck sit for 30 mins with the AC running is purely for torture testing since sometimes our trail rides get pretty slow!

Mine runs about 5 degrees hotter than yours which makes me think it is not my radiator. It also makes me think that 215 is within the safe operating range for short periods. I too get nervous above 200 and generally just turn the A/C off or put it in neutral and use throttle to increase RPM which lowers my temps.

I think I might just put a new water pump in just for laughs. It looks to be easier and cheaper than a radiator.

thats good info - thanks
yeah hot as ***** here in MD today too.
I have noticed that the higher temps are usually reached when in a stop and go situation (with the a/c blasting full)

Whiskey and Florida both have new radiators and their trucks operate at roughly the same temps as mine. Either that is normal, or we all need new water pumps.

LOL! I wouldn't count it out, I'm also questioning my fan clutch..

I have a timing cover overhaul on my long list so will tackle the water pump then, I'm not overly concerned about my temp at the moment since it's only when sitting still in the blazing sun,

Will find out as Fall approaches and can finally get out in the woods again!

Walt, replacing the radiator is not very hard at all, it will take you longer to rebleed the cooling system.

Breaking the nuts on the oil cooler lines was the scariest part, I think you can do it without removing the fan even, IIRC I just sat the shroud over the fan toward the engine

I just replaced my water pump
gotta say was impressed with the amount of noise it was making for 2 months without completely failing or leaking or completely shearing off into the Rad.....

I will be replacing my fan clutch in the next month or so
