Default Sun Roofs Open on their own

Almost every morning both front and rear sun roofs are opened. Anyone have that happen? I get in the D1, put the key in the ignition, close them both. Take the key out. next morning or even later in the day they are either partially open or all the way open. i have a couple of cats that get on the roof, thought they may cause vibration but if I tap on the roof nothing happens. this started about 3 months ago.

1998 Discovery 2 sun roofs.

Wow. LR ghosts. Maybe the front switches got damp enough to short circuit and fool the control box. That's where I'd look first. They aren't difficult to pop out and clean.

Classic Sunroof ECU issue with the relays inside of it. Check for water getting into it, and you can find a 94-04 D1/D2 unit usually pretty cheap online.

If you want them to stop opening in the meantime just remove the plugs from the ECU and your sunroofs will stay shut.

I took all this apart, no corrosion , moisture , nothing. Okay, has to be the ECU. It's a stand alone system and both sun roofs are creeping open. It was doing this ever day. I took the ECU board from the housing, looking for anything there, no burnt spots, nothing. Just hung the ECU board back without the housing, plugged it in temporary till I get another one , from EBAY probably. It has not acted up since. Wonder if it just needed bleeding off, lol. Not sure is there is any capacitors on that board, I'll keep updating.

Ordering an ECU for the sunroofs from Ebay. It went about 4 days without either opening. Sunday I was parked in the driveway, not in the carport and it rained cats and dogs. My son said 'your back sunroof is open'. Soaked the inside. I shall keep posted.

Wouldn’t the ignition need to in the On/Acc position for an ECU short to cause them to open?

That is a question I wonder about recently. I have noticed at times lately, that it would open and close without the ignition on, which surprised me. I thought it had to be on. Then I started to get confused, lol.

What a fiasco , lol. I ordered a preowned Sunroof Control Unit and it would not open the front sunroof, back was fine. Had them send me another , it would not open the front nor back, but would close them. ( I would open with original control unit) . I requested another one, it came with the harness wire still plugged in but cut off. It works fine. Problem solved. in the mean time i tested the first two sent to me, thinking is this my wiring or two bad units. It was the units. The harness plug is a bear to remove, even compressing the catch , tight tight tight. What I found on them (first two) was the solder points for the receptacle where it was soldered on the circuit board was broke lose. I figured from whom ever removed these from the old vehicles wiggled them too much to get the plugs out. The folks at KY-scraps on Ebay were patience and great to keep sending me units.
