Default sunroof motor testing

Hi all - while I'm repairing the headliner in my D1 I'm also trying to work out the bugs in the sunroofs. In my truck neither motor will spin and I'd like to try and get these going if possible. Since I have the motors out can I just put 12v to the plug and make it spin? The connectors are just four pins and if I jumper the black/red to a power source should it spin or do I need to use the other two pins as well (cant recall the colors). Also, is it common for the motors to die prematurely or is the ECU the weak link in the system. All the tracks and frames are in great shape so if I can revive the funtionality of the sunroofs it would be fantastic. Any and all help great appreciated. Thanks

Keith

Black is ground. Red is motor one direction, brown is motor other direction, yellow is a switch to ground called "tilt". But you may want to meter the connector when the motor is diconnected to be sure.

Thanks Savannah - Thats what it looked like to me as well. Since the motor wouldnt budge with red and black to a battery source I believe its safe to say the motors dead....bummer.
