Taking parts from a 98 SLE, green
Im looking at a stock 98, its not in very good shape and some things are stripped already, or shot. I can take most of the parts still on it. I think I should take as much of it as I can. I plan to keep some parts for myself but if someone needs something, or if you have any suggestions of items I should salvage for sure to offer or keep as a spare please let me know. Im in Portland, Or area btw.
Some parts and trim pieces are getting hard to find or too expensive. E.g tail light assemblies, head lights, grill, hvac control panel, shifter light assembly, window switch panel, electric seat switches, door pockets, door lock actuators. Depends how much room you have for storage. Front and rear differentials are interchangeable, but wear differently. Transfer case. Some folks like original electronics (radio). Y pipe assembly.
Apparently somebody before me creamed it for taillights, headlights, binacle, console, and dash. did a sloppy job from the looks of it too, grills toasted. I got some carpet and plastic that is better in some ways and worse in others but happy about that. The door cards are better but I dont like the look of the trim so I'll use to trade for other parts maybe. I got alot of misc stuff for spare parts and will go back for doors and glass and rear quarter panels. I'm Debating on taking seats and sunroofs, or which parts of them to keep for trade, mine are manual, cloth. If theres demand I'd take them complete but their condition is musty, yet certainly an improvement for someone out there! Maybe someone wants the jumpseats? The radiator has an aftermarket fan so I'll take that unit with the radiator, probably the wheels. It has a replacement alternator, not sure if that's something to keep, maybe good as a spare, but I dont know how to test it. I cant have the transfer case or steering box but I think all the other running gear is available but I dont want to colect alot of big heavy spare parts just in case. alot of the electric under the dash were corroded which was a bummer, but will save what I can. I was hoping the mfu would me AMR 1280 but was shot and not the same as mine anyway, I will take any of the electronics that dont look badly corroded to put them in a box on a shelf. The bumpers seem ok but the front driver has damaged end cap. the plastic rocker trim piece is OK on driver and better on passenger. Also the windshield looked good except someone removed the mirror and the glass got a delam chunk out of it on the inside. It looks bad but I cant tell if it makes the windshield ruined or if it can be repaired since the mirror could hide the damage. The rear is trimmed Rear AC and the guy that took the taillights trashed the unit but many of those parts are still there. headliners garbage.
My windshield has the same thing and has beeen that way for 5 years with no change. I moved the mirror over a bit and glued it back on. The rear jump seats are a good item but to put them in a Disco without them requires changing most of the interior trim in the back. If you have the rear heater, the controls can be used for the standard front heater one, especially the fan switch, and have much less wear then the dash ones. I could use one of those myself, as well as the power seat switch/covers. Mine work but the buttons are gone. Also grab the alarm system control unit as they can fail too.
I think I got the fan control, it was in the rotten headliner so its a bit corroded but didnt look like it was junk. I have one in mine and it was hooked up but I have no rear air or sunroof. I think the car came wired and the original bezel got lost and was replaced with a modified sunroof bezel and rear air control left in place to fill the hole and whoever just hooked it up to see if anything happened. I'd like to find the correct bezel, but good to know I have spare parts stashed in my headliner I guess.
If I could mount the jump seats on top for a real thrill ride I might do that, otherwise I like the cargo areao over extra seating.
speaking of mirrors, what is the wire going to the mirror for? On mine its been cut and they left the wire hanging out the side to reconnect but might be supposed to come out the top?
I think the power seat controls were on the console, is this right? If so, they are long gone.
I thinks some elecronics are missing, and I'm not familiar with everything yet so I dont know where the alarm stuff is or what it looks like. If it was still good and easy to get it might be gone before me. I'll look into it.
Thanks!

The mirror wires are for the compass and auto dimming . the 98 did not have a compass but it is easy to add one from a D2 . The alarm unit is a green plastic box on the pass side panel just in front of the pass door by the floor. Mine was toast and the alarm would go off for no reason and not reset. I had it and the CPU reworked and they replaced the alarm unit. so now I have a spare on the shelf (hope I never need it) The heater fan runs at around 40 amps so it gets massivly hot wheen it gets corroded. and they do melt quickly! I have a spare I cleaned out and packed with high temp dielectric grease that works (most of the time) changing it out for just a wire doesn't work as it melts the wire (been there!)
