temp gauge high
#21
fan clutch finally arrived, installed it and today took a drive. temp went up slowly and peaked at 207, and then up to 210, but back down to 205. I was on side streets doing about 35 mph. I need to hit the highways and pick up some speed. Still haven't gotten the A\C fans to work yet. need to crawl under the dash to get to K109 relay (which I suspect is the problem) Truck worked well except for some noise from the brakes from sitting too long.

i replaced my fan clutch, i think it was one that kicks in at 170 degrees? supposedly the stock value. sounds like an airplane at 55 in the summer, but i've never had any cooling issues since then. oh, and i also replaced the fan, as the original had a half cracked blade. Anyway, having a viscous fan that kicks in 90% at 175 does make a difference.

AHAH!!!! tried turning on the motor, and A/C on max, front fans did not start up!! verified that my 97 does act the way I think it should, motor on, A\C on and fans were running!!
Doesn't surprise me as I have seen some strange wiring configurations on this truck. A\C does run so I doubt it is a fuseThere were brand new Warn aux lights mounted on the grille guard (which has not been put back on yet) so maybe.....

So I replaced the coolant sending unit, the one with 2 wires ( X113 I believe) and driving the same road as I did last week, only with warmer outside temps this time, Engine temp only got up to 191 on both trips to and from park. I used an OBDII reader with live data to monitor the temps (same as last time) I will need to make some longer trips for further testing. Fans still do not come on with A/C system....
My guess is the sending unit may have been giving bad readings but we will see...
