Default Thanks to Will

My steering box has been on its way out for five years. A bit of transmission sealer in a bottle helped for a time, but time was up. A small puddle on the ground under the end of the pitman arm suggested it was time to replace this box.

When I first had trouble it just so happened that Will Tillery was advertising a box for sale so I grabbed it and threw it in the closet anticipating a day like today.

Truthfully I didn't even open the box for five years.

This week I pulled that box out of the closet in preparation for the swap and was pleasantly surprised by a couple of things..

- The pitman arm was attached. Getting these things off can be a real pain and I had anticipated going to battle by borrowing a pitman arm puller. No need. One less headache for me.
- The tie bar, which is part of how the box is mounted to the frame, was included.
- The entire unit was bathed in a light oil to prevent corrosion from forming.

The job kinda sucked and was a filthy mess but having a box that was ready to go without any preparation made it a bit easier.

Thanks to Will ....and all the other vendors that keep my truck on the road.

....AND thanks to all of you for offering advise and guidance when I need it. (now singing Koom-bai-yah)

So it’s much less headache to buy a pre-assembled pump than to buy a seal repair kit. I’ll keep that in mind.

The box is performing great. No leaks, tight steering.

What to do with the old box? Try to re-seal it for backup? Wait until I need a core for a swap? Scrap it?
