Default Thumping noise

Heard a strange thumping noise last 2 nights driving down the alley after work... not so much during the day but more so at night.

I then just for giggles checked a lug nut on the drivers side rear wheel,... and it was not even finger tight!! I tried the rest and one was tight, the rest were almost all the way out!! I had the wheel off a week ago and put a bout 600 miles on the odometer since then and ended up tightening 4 of the 5 lug nuts down using an impact to get them close and a torque wrench to tighten them down the rest of the way, same as always!! I am amazed I didn't lose the wheel or at least a few of the lug nuts. there couldn't have been more than a few threads holding them on.

Moral is to recheck those lug nuts after about 50 miles. I am extremely lucky !!

I found this after I got home tonight at 12:30A.M. My son pulled up behind me and witnessed me tightening them down .

That could have been a disaster. Glad you caught it.

The same thing happened to my on the way home after buying mine, and I've heard similar stories from a few other Disco owners. Definitely need to keep an eye on the lug nuts. Good catch!

over the years I have always done the "bring it back and we will re-check the torque after 50-100 miles" after putting on new tires, and never had one that was backed out. Now I can't say that. I was extremely lucky that I thought to try them just by hand, especially in the dark. The Rover gods have been looking out for me I guess.
