Default Tires/Power Loss Question

I have a 97 DI and I am trying to decide on new tires. Looking at 235/85/16 and 265/75/16. Anybody that has put these on there trucks notices a significant decrease in power/acceleration? Any additional strain on drivetrain, etc. . ?

Thanks,

You will definately lose acceleration and a few mpg. Overall the trade off had been worthwhile for me. I enjoy the stance a lot but don't forget you will need to trim you fenders a little but so they don't rub off road. How much lift do you have? You need at least 2".

Also you need to seriously consider a double cardan front shaft.

Clue me in.. I'm going a bit different route.. 2" lift with either 245/75/16's or 255/70/16's.. I am already going to do the U joint rear D/S conversion.

From the research I have done here and speaking to folks smarter than myself, I have found its very recommended to upgrade to a d.c. Front even with a 2" to compensate for the increase in drive train angles. You can get away with a stock single u-joint shaft but the joints wear at a greatly increased rate and can cause an increase in driveline vibrations, but this seems to be vehicle specific. Sorry for poor grammar, I am on my phone.

Not really. A 2" shouldn't require a DC shaft. If you start adding spacers on top of the lift then yeah you'll need a DC.

Go with the 235/85/16. They'll stuff better and won't rub the radius arms. Yes you'll lose some acceleration and a couple mpg's.
What lift do you have?

I thought with the 235s you would only really lose acceleration. How many mpgs will also be lost?

Who knows? Hard to say for sure. Your speedometer and odometer will be off too. So you'll have to account for that when figuring mpg.

MPGs suck in a Rover regardless of tire size.

I have 2" medium pro-sport Terrafirma kit with 235/85 Duratracs. No vibrations and lost about 2 mpg.
