Looking at my transmission plug on my 99 disco 1 with auto... Is this the wrong transmission plug?

I'm trying to figure out if this is causing the massive leaks

If you can get the proper threaded bolt just use that until you can get a replacement IMHO.

The AB site shows the RTC4647 hex head should be used in the '94-'99 Disco1. OverRover stated the hex head and allen head plugs have different threads, though. Hopefully yours isn't cross threaded.

What is weird is that they also show STC1060 as genuine only for Discovery 1 99 and it has a " fine thread "... So odd that there are two types.

I am going to order the RTC4647 . Is there a washer as well?

Thanks!

STC1060 IS the copper washer.......

Wonder if you have a washer installed on yours.....? That's allot of fluid your setting free there.

Thanks for catching that!

I made a mistake there.

I have the STC4098G drain plug (specific to the 99 Disco 1 and Disco 2's).

I called AB and spoke with them today to clarify. They said that since it is a 99 specific drain plug, and mine had it stock that I should stick with it as the threads to the other one may be different.

So I have ordered a replacement STC4098G transmission drain plug and the copper washer .

Also, the quick lube place that did the oil change and transmission fluid change last year messed it up by not knowing what kind of drain plug it was and using vice grips to open it

Picked up the used drain plug from Roadside Werx yesterday afternoon. Felt resistance as I was installing the plug. Turns out the other half of the old drain plug was still way up inside the pan. I used a pair of needle nose pliers, applied pressure by spreading the pliers inside the pan and slowly twisted the other half of the plug out of the pan. No resistance coming out. I got lucky! Plug in and transmission fluid refilled.

Thanks for the assistance all!

Not jacking the thread, but it is serendipitous that this thread appeared yesterday when I had my "aha!" Moment.

I would like to add one more picture and information. My rover has been sitting on jack stands at front end while doing the D90 brake upgrade, and has not been running in a few months.

It is still eaking transmission fluid all over the garage floor... I will be replacing the drain plug with a new drain plug and crush washer, but I am guessing it must be the current transmission drain plug that is allowing the leak.

Since nothing is running, or has run, it has to be a failure with the drain plug. Does that sound logical?

Thoughts?

Still leaking, even while on jack stands for a few months
