How to brace, cut and seal the cab especially around the roof where it's curved.. I have decided running 1x1 square tubing across tops of rear door panels and then across the back of the truck is probably going to be the best way to make some supports. And then maybe add an additional vertical pillar.

What if you could get some tubing or round stock suitable for a cage and fit a piece shaped like one of the interior ribs asnd weld it to the top for bracing?

When I was a teenager, my Dad and older brother built a hunting buggy from a cut down VW with a 36 horse motor. The entire frame was 3 inch thick wall tubing bent with a commercial pipe bender. They used plate for the floor pan and had a platform over the motor to haul deer on and had a rifle rack on the rear roll bar.

There was a front roll bar and the two roll bars were joined with a couple of pieces of tubing as well. That thing was very sturdy. They built it in the late 60's and dad drove it for years. He had a towbar for the front so he could tow it to his camp.

Speaking of winches, the Discovery has a PTO on the drive train, how can you tie into that for a winch? That would be awesome.

Cutting into back doors.

Also picking up a set of 4.70 Rover diffs from a series 2A.. Will post that up when I get a chance. Gonna run 10 spline I think since it's not gonna be locked or running massive tires.

Hey Jake,

What were you gonna do with the back section of the cab?

If you were gonna trash it, you think you could cut this section out for me, and how much would you want for it?

Just the drivers side. Passengers is oddly pristine.

Yea I am a beast with an angle grinder

May try to make it street legal eventually. Goal number 1 is to make it an absolute animal off road.

OK a little progress on the truggy this weekend..

Picked up some mud tires and steel wheels for it.. They are british retreads that came over on d-90 pick up...

Also picked up some spring retainers for the rear for when I put the new mounts and shocks on.. Right now the plan is to run 3" AG4x4 springs, -2 mounts and OME's until I can fund some new shocks. Then honestly I may go with pro-crap shocks because this thing is so light and already feels stiff with just the stock shocks. We will see once it is at it's final weight I suppose.

Oh - and I drove it around some more and it is scary fast. And it spins out really easy cause it's so light in the rear. I am going to be making some trails behind my place in the woods with my neighbors so hopefully that will give me more testing grounds for it.
