Default Unlocking/Locking door with key 98 Disco 1

What is supposed to happen when you put the key into the lock on the drivers side door? Is it supposed to trigger the power locks? When I do this on my 1998 disco 1- nothing happens. The key will turn - but the doors will not lock or unlock. When I put the key in the lock on the passenger side- I can lock and unlock the passenger door. What is going on here?

As a followup question- is there any way to lock the doors without using the keyless entry? Whenever I push the locks down- they pop back up.
Is the only way to lock the doors with the keyless entry.
Thanks

I would have to check as it has been a while but I believe the locks will auto unlock if the key is in the ignition. Also I think you have to hold the door handle open as you close it to keep it locked. If you are having problems you may have a faulty door trigger, door lock wire, or some other issue going on (possibly a bad actuator)

when you turn the key in the drivers door lock it should lock and unlock all the doors as well as turn the alarm on and off.

sounds like the arm is disconnected in your door, pop off the door pannel and you should be able to see if anythings loose pretty easily.

On mine, I totally quit trying to use the key fob remote. If I want to lock it, I do so with the key in the drivers door. That locks all the doors, and the side marker flashes twice I think or maybe three times, indicating the alarm is set. You are supposed to tthen unlock the drivers door only (not the passenger's side) or the alarm will sound.

I had seen somewhere, that using the keyfob puts it into a higher Super alarm mode or something to that effect.

Also, if you unlock the cargo door the alarm will go off this way...

Well, it could just be something binding in your lock linkage. Mine will lock from the door, but it takes a bit of force. Be very very careful that you do not break the key off.. Locking the door and holding the lock for a few seconds will keep the alarm form enabling. Then you can unlock from anywhere.

You may need to lube the lock and linkages.
