Default Vacuum leak where (replaced) M/C and Booster join

Hey all, quick question:

I just replaced my master cylinder and my brake pedal has gone from way-too-squishy to way-too-firm. There's now a pretty big vacuum leak where the new master cylinder bolts on to the booster - big enough to make the engine run roughly. The leak definitely wasn't there before I replaced the cylinder: the booster still had vacuum in it when I pulled the old cylinder out.

I've seen some mention of an o-ring that causes this - the only o-ring I found is a thin little thing about 2" in diameter that the RAVE calls it a "water ingress seal". I'm using it, but it's still leaking air. The new (Cardone) cylinder didn't seem to come with any o-rings.

I figure my next step is to put some kind of gasket behind the master cylinder flange, but if you guys have a better idea I'm all ears.

Oh yeah - it's a '97 Disco SE7 that I've had since April. Thing's awesome when the brakes work ....

Not familar with what you put in, but I know that others on here have had problems with anything other than the LR Master cylinder for these. What was the source of yours and are you absolutely sure of the fit?

For a good exploded view go to Rover's North website and follow the links to the Brakes view.

Got it from Rock Auto: CARDONE SELECT Part # 132849. The picture on that site is what it looks like.

The two cylinders are similar, but definitely not identical. The old one has a yellow plastic shroud over the plunger (RAVE calls it a "transfer housing") The fluid reservoir from the old (genuine) cylinder went onto the new one just fine, the grommets don't leak, and everything seemed to bolt up as it should.

Default Any solutions?

I just redid the whole brake system on a 94 discovery and there a large vacuum leaking sound from the booster.

Could I have just torn the booster diaphragm while bleeding the system?

thus thread mentions an o-ring while installing the master, I think mine did nit cone with one. Could that be it?

it also mentioned a yellow plastic tube on the master cylinder. The new one came with one that I removed. I thought it was a shipping protection part. Was that required?
