Angry Venting steam, not fuel...

Ok so this has come up several times too many with finding parts for my truck.

Today, I went to [such and such LR parts] looking for a new fuel tank seal, because the one I removed is slit and allowing water/mud into the tank. He gives me part #NTC5859 which is for vehicles NOT equipped with AEL. Mine is. And this is the correct part. But he wouldn't give that one to me because it wasn't "listed" as the right part for my truck and I guess I shouldn't have told him BMW was stamped on my old part...

Good thing I have started a list of the CORRECT parts list for MY truck. Seems like on some parts I have to search part numbers for a '90-'95 RR Classic, and others just no luck other than to match the best I can and ends up being a part for my truck, just not searchable that way.

99 being a cross over year just really screws up the computer weasels. Buy one of each and bring back the one that did not fit. Tell them you have two trucks. It is not like a parts guy has never made a mistake.

You're right Buzz! And thanks for the chuckles.. I just need to own my truck longer to have finally touched and replaced every part. I believe the main difference with parts on this 99 is the AEL system (not just fuel system parts are different though.. my brake pads aren't the same as what stores have listed). As far as the LR parts advisor goes, I have to admit that even in my line of work, yeah I can't always think of everything either!
