97 Disco I - Post Engine Steam Problems
Hi and a quick thanks to all who take the time to read and especially those who respond.
Recently acquired a 97 Disco I, what a nice ride! Oil leak so shop replaced the headliners and as the shop requested, we had the engine steamed.
Well... as many undoubtedly already know... problems have followed.
1.) Check engine light on.
2.) Temp Guage blows past hot and is pined all the way to nuclear! Radiator fan is spinning, pressure on the hose to the engine, turning on the a/c doesn't effect the temp.
3.) Dash lights are spotty.
Now the car seem to run great, however, having blown a jeep engine, I don't want to repeat that mistake. Any thoughts before it goes to the shop?

Sounds like you got your ECU wet. Never steam a newer engine, just use high pressure and degreaser if needed and in your case, stay away from the ECU mount over near the passanger firewall.
So I am a little confused as to what repair you had done, did you replace the head gaskets? If so you may still have a problem there. If you are still show high temp I would have the engine tested ASAP before you damage it.

Thank for the reply. There certianly are a lot of electical elements infront of the passangers firewall, however, the schemeatics I found show the ECU right on the engine. Please advise.
I spoke with a local mechanic who advised similar to your insights. "Dry it for days drive it for a little and see if the problem persists"
Which is what I intend to do as it is a third car, maybe one of the nicest, but a thrid none the less.
ANOTHER QUESTION.
I noticed when I step on the gas peddle I hear a gurgling sound, should I be concerend?
Regards,
Mark

Your ECU is in a box on or near the passanger side firewall.
It may dry out if you are lucky, time will tell.
As for the gurgeling sound, you are low on coolant, I would fill it up and look for leaks. If it drops again, I would have someone pressure test the coolant system to see if you have a head gasket leaking.
