Default Water inside my transmission?

Guys!

I had a very bad experience with my car because some water leaked trough the sunroofs. It soaked the transmision shift lever and burned the shift interlock solenoid (which I opened and repaired for freee, saving 130 bucks!!!).

It seems that the water went inside the transmission cable because it has become very, very hard to shift. I have applied wd 40 to the shifther and it is smooth. The cable is the problem.

Does the water can leak to the interior of the transmission? would it be safe to apply wd 40 in the opening of the cable and wait some days until it leaks trough all the cable?

Thanks!

You can try WD to get it to loosten up. Once its moving fine I use motorcycle chain lube on all my cables it seems to hold up well and repells water too

The only way water can get into your transmission is through the dipstick tube or a leaking seal on the trans, it cannot leak in from the top, the cable does not even go into the trans.

Also thru the vent tube.
If in question, check your dip stick for signs of water and replace/flush the fluid a couple of times if water is found.

well.... almost. I took out the sunroof rails and reinstalled the bins that catch the water but forgot to connect the drain hoses. A couple of weeks ago we had very rainy weeks here, and I think that the car received no less than 10 litres of water inside.

The water in the shifter was enough to soak the shift solenoid.
