Default Water Jacket Leak

Hey guys my water jacket I guess its called on the left hand side of number 19 on page #297 of the D1 workshop manual is leaking. Its not leaking at the hose but where the metal sleeve thingy meets the jacket housing. Is there a quick fix for this? I picked up some quick steel today thought maybe I might try that (have to repair an exhaust manifold crack anyways) and also thought about maybe aluminum solder? I just did my heads and after cleaning the plenum and replacing the jacket this darn thing started leaking. I'm not sure where to even get one. Only thing online I can find are gaskets for it. I really dont want to take the plenum off again because its sealed nicely.

Any advice would help

thanks guys.

The part you are trying to fix is ERR1262 (Water Jacket Cover). You can still get them new, but they are stupid expensive > https://www.britishpartsofutah.com/p...-p/err1262.htm
Look on ebay & you can get a complete used plenum for that price.

So you have 2 options to fix it; Epoxy or brass fittings. First what type of Quicksteel did you buy? The High-Temp (#1) will work for the exhaust manifold, but the 2-part Epoxy (#2) will work MUCH BETTER on the water jacket pipes. I've done this with the part on an off the truck. DON'T USE THE EPOXY ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD!!!

This next option needs the water jacket cover REMOVED from the truck. If you want a more permanent solution use brass fittings. Cut off the pipes with a dremel tool cut-off wheel, and then tap the hole with a 1/8" NPT tap. Insert 2 brass fittings and DONE. Back to Happy Town..... Good Luck!

holy f* sticks batman! thats crazy $

I have quicksteel #1 but was reading directions it said needs to cure at temps around 80F for 4 hours. wtf I may just wait till summer.

I like your brass fitting option that seems brilliant and far cheaper than buying a new one but before I take it off I'm going to try to heat it up with a torch and put some typical solder in there lol. see if it will do anything....

Thanks OverRover

Just a heads-up, unless you plan to remove the water jacket cover I would tell you don't waste your time with the solder. Even if you remove the coolant hoses there will still be water in the water jacket. It would be like trying to solder wet copper pipe in your house. It's not going to flow/hold. Plus you won't be able to get any flux between the pipes and the cover.

If you are going to try and "repair" this while on the truck, just go to the auto parts store and get the proper $6.00 2-part epoxy. I know this will fully cure even if wet.

Yea I have decided when I get more time I'll just take it off. Hopefully by then Ill find a cheaper one or go with the brass fix. Would need aluminum solder to stick to aluminum I think.
