Default SOLVED Rear door speakers not working

The rear door speakers are not working in my 1999 Discovery 1.
Power is being supplied to the little amp (in the purple/green wires), but there's no audio signal (in the red/black wires).

This may be unrelated, however I noticed a stray red cable under the glove box. Does anyone know the purpose of this cable?

That vile green box is the Lucas alarm system. The cable hanging is from connector C225, pin 26, and is the antenna input for the key fob.

Audio problem could be broken wire in harness that jumps from door to fame.

Okay thanks. Does the stray wire act as the antenna, or am i missing a part?

Might be missing a part - it is a shielded cable, so at some point you need an antenna to not have a shield. Do your key fobs work very far?

I have a fob but I believe it needs to be programmed. It's the correct model but it doesn't work.

I'm actually going to get it programmed next time im in medford.
Do you happen to know a good place to look for the source of the rear speaker issue?

I have done so much to this rover: replaced headlights, taillights, broken blinker handle, recoated the bonnet clearcoat, disassembled the rear door lock to replace a tiny spring, installed brush guard, roof rack, its almost perfect, except my rear speakers will not work.

If you have any suggestions please let me know

See attached drawing from RAVE. It shows the red/black you speak of, as in a shielded cable, with connections starting at C412, then C437, then C212, ending at the radio at C2054. Obviously, easier to get at C437 at the door frame. The RAVE has connector numbers on diagrams, and a list of connectors and picture of their location, plus pin outs.

The RAVE also shows a premium radio for 98, it seem to have a different harness.

I figure I should mention this first.

The method I used to decide the speaker cables are the issue:
  • The rear door subs did not work
  • I attached new speakers to the amp, no luck.
  • I caught the red and black wires before they enter the sub amp, and I plugged them into working speakers. No sound at all.

However, after seeing your diagram with the strange amplifier shield setup, I'm wondering if, under full working condition, the red and black speaker wires would even work with a normal speaker?
