Change the oil over to Shell Rotella 5w-40. Where are you located? (CLIMATE WISE) What engine do you have? How many miles? Do you have any service records? Is the oil at the full mark? You should check your oil PSI to see if thats your issue. Check the PSI at IDLE COLD and 2500 RPM COLD, then at hot IDLE and hot 2500 RPM tell us what they are. Have you downloaded the RAVE manual yet? If not, I would recommend doing so.
**NOTE** Mine ticks too, I know I have already replaced my oil pump and timing chain and have decided to just let it tick until she quits, then I have another engine ready to go!
WELCOME TO LAND ROVER'S!!!

15w-40 diesel oil is best for these things.
I dont know where you live, if it gets cold in the winter then 5w-40 diesel oil is best.
Change it every 3,000 miles if you dont use diesel oil, if you use diesel oil you can go 5,000 miles.
It came with 10w-40 from the factory and that is what the dealer used.
They will tick if you use 5w-30, or rather be more likely to tick.
It gets to thin and cant protect the engine very well.
even if its not a diesel engine? I live in MN, so I gather 10w 40 would be best year round? I have the 4.0 engine.

Thats odd! To make sure we all understand: When your Discovery fuel light comes on, you can only get 15 gallons in the tank?!

Mine does that. Gas guage reads empty with 8-10 gallons left. Every now and again it will read accurate but that's rare

What are jump seats worth? 2 hours of time when you have to replace a tail light bulb. I learned that yesterday. Or my hands are just too big.

Your correct, I believe that would be your fuel level arm on your fuel pump.

Yes diesel oil, just because it is not a diesel engine means nothing.
You live in Minnesota, it gets cold there in the winter, use 5w-40.
Go to Wal-Mart, Shell Rotella 5w-40, its in a blue jug, buy two jugs, you need 7 qts for a single oil change.
Then go to NAPA and buy a NAPA oil filter, the middle grade filter will be best but the lower grade one will be fine too.
Dont waste the money on the top of the line one.
Make sure you grease all the u-joints and slip joints on both driveshafts each and every oil change.

I have found that mine reads differently depending on the brand of gas I use which I figured out is directly related to the amount of ethanol in the fuel.

Sam, throw a 5gal gas can in the back with a funnel, drive until she quits and see see how much gas you can put in.
If your gas tank is dented it will hold less fuel.
