What does this light mean? (Trailer picture?)
My '96 Disco has always done this, but I've finally finished all the major mechanicals and can start thinking about details.
When I first turn on my turn signals (left or right) I get a light on the dashboard the flashes once. The light is green, and looks like the outline of a trailer. I'm not towing anything though. The front turn signals both work, as do the two small indicators on the front fenders, and there is one indicator that blinks on each side of the rear bumper.
Am I missing anything? I tried searching but I didn't know what to call this trailer-picture-light thingy.
As a side note, in case this is relevant, my turn signal switch sometimes has issues and doesn't always make the blinkers work unless I push it inward. I may need to clean or replace that switch. I don't think it's related, but though it was worth mentioning.

same here, I always thought it would stay on if you have a trailer attached (maybe recognizes the extra current draw for the trailer bulbs) but I don't think it did last time I had a trailer hooked up. I can't imagine why else it's there though so....
The light is there so if you are towing a trailer....when you turn on your signal lights or flashers the little trailer pic will light up to let you know that the trailer signals are working, it flashes once when you turn on the signal ( even if there is no trailer hooked up) to let you know that the light works.
It goes against my male instincts to do so, but I read this in the owners manual

Yup, always blinks if a trailer is connected and it's lights are functioning correctly.
Once then no more if no trailer, or a trailer light is out.
If you change your indicator lights to halogen it will blink all the time even with no trailer unless you install a HD flasher.
