Default Where in the radio is the code stored?

Hi all. Where is the radio code stored, within the face plate or the radio unit itself? As you probably know the face plate is attached by two 10 pin plugs that can easily come on and off, along with several plastic fasteners that frequently break off. I have a broken radio unit, so I'm wondering if I can transfer the face plate from my radio (since I have the code) to another working radio (that I don't know the code).

Seems too easy so I'm guessing it's within the radio, but I'll feel better with an experts knowledge.

Thanks in advance.

I believe its stored in the radio. If you know the vin of the other radio you can get the code from land rover dealer.

Sorry for this super late reply. thanks for the info guys.

Yeah i forgot to get the VIN number off the vehicle. Roberf...so there's serial number on the main board? Can i use this to get the code from the dealer? I've talked to the dealership several times about a serial they can use too, this might be the one i assume because I have never seen a serial on the outside.
