Default ABS Codes Stored?

Are ABS codes stored? Took off from a stop sign and the 3 amigos poped up. Got home, shut car off, when I restarted later they were gone. Can I have it scaned for codes or do the lights gotta be lit to get the codes?

Nope, the lights have to be on to be able to read the codes.
Have your brakes been squeaking lately, are your wheels all black from brake dust?
By the way, it takes a special scanner to read the codes, engine scanners will only show a 1590 fault code that doesn't tell you what is actually wrong.

The system does keep track of some historical codes. But if you are going to have to pay someone, I'd wait until you start seeing the codes more often.

It only stores codes that still show up when you turn the vehicle off and on.

Well, looks like I will have to wait to see whats wrong. They came on once again, but yet went off as soon as I shut off and restarted the car.

My brakes are not squeky at all, but do create ALOT of dust. Seems like I am cleaning my front wheels once a week. I have read where this can be a cause. Do I pull the abs sensor out the hub and clean all the brake dust off it and the ring it reads?

First thing I did was make sure all my hubs were tight, i.e. no play or wobble. Good there. Then I disconnected the harnesses on each corner. One had minimal corrosion, rest were shiney. I found an ABS Amigo on craigslist for $100, but dont want to buy that unless it becomes a more frequent problem

So anyone know if the brake dust thing may hold culprit? I have read about it, never spoke to anyone who had it happen firsthand.

I'd say buy the scanner, Three Amigos are like a bad penny. They will show up again at some point.
