wife needs help, I'm in Iraq...
Hey quick question my wife recently did an oil change... and she said she added 6.5 qt and everything was good level wise. she checked levels next day after driving and the the stick was dry!
had my dad supervise a new change, and made sure he did correct oil change. after they filled it up and checked the dipstick its still not reading. they put 7 quarts in and I know for a fact at 6.5 quarts its solid at the full mark.
had them check coolant and trans fluid to see if oil was dissapearing somewhere and nothing. they say it runs fine no CEL no oil pressure lights.
is there anything you all can think of that would cause the dipstick tube to be clogged or something?
the most frustrating thing is I'm in Iraq right now and I can't get my hands on it.

Man it is so hard to be so far away while stuff like this is going on. My wife tried to buy an electric lawn mower becasue she didn't know how to start ours while I was on a short-notice deployment. My bad for leaving her without the proper knowledge. Thankfully I had a buddy go over and take care of the yard until I got back.
Regarding your LR...that's a real head-scratcher. Perhaps they aren't seating the dipstick all the way? Is it safe to assume there isn't seven qts of oil puddling on the ground? I can't think of any other place where seven qts could be poured into other than the trans and that would be quite difficult.
It just has to be related to the dipstick. Maybe the oil is so clean they can't see it? Are they in a well-lit area?
Good luck and stay safe over there. Thank you for serving and protecting me, my family and our way of life. Matt

yeah the wife has a good grasp on rovers shes changed oil many times. no oil leaks, dipstick fully seated, and they havnt mixed up trans/oil dips either. asked if it was just so clean they couldnt see it and they said 'no its deff. dry.....
....scratching head....

if it's not on the ground. it's in the engine,.. somewhere. are they sure they put the oil in the engine and not in the coolant system.... i would tell them to get under and open the drain and see if clean oil comes pouring out.
ditto on the hard to see clean oil, especially synthetic, in certain lighting conditions. Also important that all the dip stick is still there, the end with marks is not broken off, etc.
Come home safe, and soon.

Anyone still at your home unit, Family Support, MWR, Motor Pool, Chaplain, VFW, HQ, anyone back at home? Somebody that can put eyes on, can triple verify for you, for her? I think even the Red Cross could probably send somebody you know? They came through for me once when I needed it.
I just hope it isn't the XD.......

G'day,
First off, thanks for your service! I just back last year myself. Where is the truck? I live near Fort Campbell and am very handy around a Disco. If it is not to far I can go check it out. Good Luck,

Where in Iraq are you?

You said oil light did not come on... but does it come one for a second or two when first started, or is the bulb burned out??? Also, if wife or dad can use your sign on, we'll send them all the pictures and drawings and advice they can stand. And if near Savannah, I'll volunteer to drive over as well.
Thanks all. Currently out of the Marine Corps, working Security as a civie.
I am sure they did the oil change correctly had my dad do it the second time around to be sure, and he knows what hes doing. oil went in the right place, dipstick is not broken,no leaks, no contamination in other fluids. light is functioning.
Nothing went wrong to warrant a second oil change it was just the fact nothing was showing on the stick. and she thought it was empty, but when they drained oil it was full, 6.5 quarts of clean oil came out.
Its in there its just not picking up on the dipstick for some reason.

Are they checking it while it is running? Or immediately after it is shut off? A quart or two of oil can still be up in the rockers and other places. It's best to let a warm motor sit for a few minutes before checking fluids.
