Question Which wires for clock illumination ?

Hello,

My clock illumination doesn’ switch on no more when the driving lights are switching on.
I screwed the black bulbholder (Osram, 12 Volt -1,2 Watt) of and placed the contacts of a reserve bulb on the 2 copper film strips that feed the bulbholder. But no result.
The transistors in the clock assembly could be faulty, but how to make sure the clock assembly do receive electric tension for the illumination ?
There are 4 current feeds in the connector (lila-black-red-green)
Which 2 colours do feed the illumination bulb ?
So I can put the leads from the reserve bulb direct on these connectors for checking that the clock assembly receives tension for the clock illumination

Much greetings,
Pierro Disco from Belgium

Clock assembly with the black Osram bulbholder apart.

Which 2 colours feed the clock illumination ?

Same thing happened to my clock ('96 D1). Does yours get bright when you adjust the dash dimmer to full dim position? Mine would reset the time to 1:00 sometimes when starting too.

Hello JohnZo,

I regret but my Disco 300Tdi manual (from may 1998) has no dimmer fitted ; so I can’t inform you about it.

Greetings

I took my clock apart and cleaned all the electrical contacts. I reflowed solder joints on the circuit board. Now the illumination works right, but I dropped the LCD screen out, so now the numbers don't look right sometimes until I wiggle the front screen around a bit. It keeps time now anyway, the minutes are usually right on, just the hours need interpreting.

According to my notes, black is ground, LG (green) is 11.3 V with key on, PN (purple) is 11.5 V key on or off, and RN (red) is 3.5V dim position and 8.3V bright position (connected to the dash Interior Lamps).

I'm surprised you don't have a dimmer. Mine is in a not very obvious position on the left side under the gauge cluster. It rolls from side to side.

Hello JohnZo,

Thanks for the usefull notes !

If you press carefully on the protecting glass, some horizontal and/or vertical digits may comes back (so it did

Indeed, my Discovery 300 Tdi man (from may 1998) has no dimmer ; but the outlines for the dimmer outcut in the dashboard are present in the dessin…in the left side under the gauge.

My Disco is not in the higher class : no head beam wipers, 2 mechanical sunroofs and only Air/Con in front.
Possibly the series built conform NAS-specifications where a bit more luxurious in general equipment.

Greetings from Belgium,
PierroDisco
