wires running from the fuel pump of a '95 discovery
Are you asking about the harness that connects to the fuel pump? If so, it's goes down under the truck and routed to the starboard side. If you are asking about the routing of wires in the fuel pump itself, then they consist of 4 wires that's routed between the leveler and the relay and goes out to the socket.

i am talking about the wires that connect to the top of the pump and seem to disappear into the truck frame. You said the "star board side", what is that? The wires run underneath the vehicle, or inside somewhere? and are they connected to something else other than the fuel relay? Want to know where to look for these wires. My relay and pump have both been tested, and they are both good, but something in between them draws electricity when the vehicle is off.
and most of the times when i start it ( sometimes right away, sometimes in a few minutes), it idles up and down from normal idle speed to almost dying. sometimes the fuel hand reads empty and the fuel light is on. any ideas?
I just researched my fuel gauge/light issues recently. Turns out the wiring between the point where it exits the body on the rear, driver's side and makes its way across and over to the tank had several nicks in most of the wires - the purple w/white tracer was heavily damaged (only a few strands were still connected). Went in and properly repaired several sections of wiring (remove damaged section, solder in new section, cover soldered areas with shrink wrap, and bundled the sections and replaced missing wire loom cover) and haven't had a problem since.
Since then, a mystery stalling when real cold out (like under 20*F) and the engine was cold has gone away. I'm hoping it stays that way!
