It works!!! Increased gas mileage!!
There's a pooint of deminishing returns and you would need a second air intake on your plenum as the 3" inlet is going to be the restrictive point. And then you'll need better exhaust.
To all the folks that state as fact "everyone knows" or "its been proven"... that K&N filters allow more dirt to pass than stock filters... could one of you post a link to a reliable documented study or your source? I notice that K&N is a sponsor via their banner adds here so this is the least that should be done. I have no real take one way or the other but would like to know the truth. Thanks ... Joe
I will add my 2 cents on here... I have been against K&N for D2's. I ran one on my D1 for 6 months and ony saw a dirty MAF as a change. I got one of these Spectre filters about 2 months ago. 1 month in, I realized my truck was running too cool. Stat was locked open... swapped it back, and on my last 2 highway trips, I am back to 20 mpg.
This filter has a larger surface area, thus decreasing the actual pressure and flow per square inch, thus allowing the filter to trap more media. The month before I got the filter, I removed the airbox and had the factory filter open to air. (yes, I had it duct taped in). I saw and felt an improvement in power and mpg. I was down to 12 on the highway and this brough me back to 15. I was seeing 15-16 with the new filter and then back to 20 when it was actually running warm enough.
I would put my stamp on these. I changed out my squish hose and hard piped it all with parts they had in the store down by the jack, and then took the hose they sell to plug in the front and ran it through a hole behind the headlight for cold air suction. Ideally, you should make a box around the whole thing that sucks from the front or side, but it works as is...

Dont try a duct youll see cooler air but no improvement. And i dont believe it will ram any air, the intake will be in a low pressure area.
I have some huge PVC i plan to make a type of cover or cradle for my filter, just to keep the water off, though if water touched it there would be no problem.

So apparently you don't believe in Physics?
Do you know the formula for Horsepower?
Ever heard of Delta T and Delta P?
I called Auto Zone and asked for the spectre and we argued for about 15 minutes before they realized they had it in stock and it did not pop up in their fit search because it was considered a performance part.

I'm hesitant to run any filter you can see day light through. I've raced SCORE and Best In The Desert for 15 years, also was previously a heavy equipment operator here in the AZ desert... so I've seen first hand the benifits of paper filters over K&N style filters. Sure they flow nice, but at what cost?
