I have a 03 disco hse 52,000, I just drove from Utah to Idaho and I realy liked the ( S MODE ) but is this bad to run on a long trip or all the time or on hilly roads?

 

NO.
All that "S" mode does is change the shift pattern of the transmission, it makes it "sporty". So it will make the transmission downshift sooner and hold the shifts longer to give you better response and be quicker from from 0-60.
Does it actually work? I have no idea, I dont know how you make a 6000lb SUVsporty.
But to answer your question you can leave it in sport mode all the time.

 

You will get a little less gas mileage cause the tranny won't lock up as fast on the road. Great for intown driving, some save that by using it or keeping your tranny in 3rd gear you will get better gas mileage.

 

Like mike said, it might reduce MPG. Its great for passing on the interstate, but after that I just turn it off. Not saying that its bad, but I will do anything for a little extra MPG with prices these days! I have never heard that it improves MPG in city driving, but it very well could. I know for a fact that driving in 3rd for city driving will improve it.

Hi Guys, I don't mean to jump in but is that true about driving in 3rd?

I just got a Disco 03 and I posted about its gas mileage (or lack thereof-grin) so if you drive
it in the city in 3rd all the time instead of D you get better mileage?

Can you verify that or better yet explain why & how? That'd be great! I'm a total newbie to
my new Disco and I've only had it about 3 weeks now.

As for Sport mode, again use it for ..... ?
