Ibeg to differ,I changed the wires on my discoII in about one hour. If I could have removed thehood it would have been easier . I actually had to change them out twice. the wires I bought were crap.I had to replace the plenum gasket. so replacing the wires was easy. The truck ran like crap. misfire codes. soI had no choice but replace the new wires back to my old wires and hope it ran better. the best way is tolay right on the engine. I took a piece of plywood and cushioned it, climbed right on top of the engine, laying down righton top ofthe manifold facing the windshield. look down and there they are. I printed a picture from rove of the wire lay-out put it in front of me and wire for wire changed them out.the hardest part was trying to remove the wires from coil. a piece of hard steel wire made into a hook helped align the wires into the coil holes.after that the truck ran great.it can be done. piece of cake. 300 bucks holy cow!

Fellers,
I changed my own plug wires. Im 67 and on S.S. so no paying 300. for wire replacement.I did it in 3 hours. Recipe?
Here goes. Get paper and pencil to mark down each wire where it came from and where it goes . Get a milk crate or something to stand on so you can get at your work. A long screw driver. A short prayer for patients good lighting and get started. Take top row off first (remember to mark where they go)I wrapped wire around screw driver for leverage to pull wire off block. No room for hands.
Then took bottom row off and replaced wires then and there to each respective plug. Then replaced top row and ran wires to each plug. You get in a hurry and you will mess up sure as heck.
You are done. A prayer of thanks. and you got her whipped. I was scared to death to try it after reading the forums but decided that if someone else could do it , So could I.
Good Luck,
Con

Magnecor's are the way to go I noticed a huge difference after switching out. Don't have experience with the DII, but on my DI it took about 40 min. And that was BS with the neighbor and a few beers. Good luck, you can do it yourself and safe a bunch of money.

And all this time I thought I was the old man of the group.
Glad to hear you changed out your wires, shows what a little patience will do.

I changed my wires in the hobby shop in about 4 hours. It takes time, but it can be done. Laying on the engine is probably the easiest way. I just did them one at a time so that I wouldn't get them mixed up. The intake doesn't have to be removed, but be prepared to lose skin. Good Luck.

Did anyone who responded to this change out plug wires on a D2 with secondary air? I know that ups the job difficulty. It's a job I'll be tackling shortly. Any advice?

When you have secondary air, you will have to remove the intake as well as all the piping for the secondary air, no way around it.
