Default **HELP** 4.0 into a 4.6 engine swap

I have a 1999/2000 Discovery II with only 50,000 miles (it runs perfect). Unfortunately a deer had other plans for the body (Left side now damaged).

I found a 2003 with a bad engine.

Will my good 4.0 fit in place of the 4.6 without major problems???

Need info asap PLEASE!!!!

Thanks -
Joel

Sure, pretty much plug and play. The one down side is depending on what state you live in, you may need to switch all the SAI parts and the ECU on to the 4.0 and of course the 03 will be about 30 horse power less then other 03's.

I do it all the time. I can't count the number of trucks that started with 4.6s and now have 4.0s in them.

If the donor engine is an SAI engine and the recipient is not, plug the ports in the heads and go on down the road.

Unless you are in one of those states where you have to pass emissions, then you have to transfer all the parts over. If you don't transfer the parts and you keep the 03 ECU, it will throw codes for SAI issues.

Mike, even if you have emissions testing, this swap will be transparent to them as the engine will not notice the difference in the ECU, the ECU won't notice the difference.

If the recipient vehicle was SAI, swap the SAI heads to the replacement shortblock, otherwise, it will go seamlessly.

What about the MIL due to the differing EVAP systems and harnesses and fuel pump assembly on vehicles with and without SAI?
