[WTB] Land Rover Discovery 2 – Mostly Stock, <100k Miles or Recent Head Gasket , Mini
Hey y’all, I’ve been on the hunt for a mostly stock Disco 2 and having a rough time with auctions and Marketplace, so figured I’d try here.
What I’m looking for:
I’m in Florida and would love something local (FL/GA), but I’d consider shipping if it checks all the boxes. If you’ve got one or know of one for sale, let me know! Appreciate any leads.
What I’m looking for:
- Under 100k miles OR head gaskets recently done
- Minimal frame rust (Florida humidity and rust don’t mix)
- Overall decent/above average condition (not expecting perfect, just not a total project)
- Rear jump seats preferred, but not a dealbreaker
- Not black in exterior paint or interior (I like my A/C to have a fighting chance)

Well you certainly aren't going to get one under 100k miles for that budget unless it's cosmetically trashed. Getting one with the head gaskets already done is a crap shoot. You have no idea if they were done properly and if it fixed the issue. I'd wager if someone spent the time or money to properly do the gaskets only to put it up for sale that it probably has other issues. You are much better off finding one in good cosmetic shape and budgeting time to do the engine.
Do post the link! I personally enjoy watching car auctions and would love to see that one.
Finding anything under 100k in any conditions is pretty hard. Keep in mind, even if it appears to be in great shape, expect to spend $2-4k on parts alone for repairs for the first year. Unlike modern vehicles, lots of systems aren't doing so well by 100k miles.
Why does it have to be under 100k miles? My HSE has 184k on it and I think it’s in better shape than many I see with 100k fewer miles. And it’s never had head gaskets. I also wouldn’t take anywhere close to $7-8k for it.
I’d focus my efforts on one with strong service history and history in general. In my opinion the traditional thoughts of mileage on a vehicle being the #1 determination of value is ridiculous- especially on a 20+ year old machine. High mileage, high maintenance= better buy than low mileage questionable service.
