Default 01 D2 would not start--was security system

Got in my "always starts, never any problem---knock on wood" D2 and ...what??---would not start! Cranks , but no spark that I could diagnose with no tools. Went back home and got on the forum---Everybody said hands down crankshaft position sensor...Being late Saturday, I could'nt get one right away, and happen to see a post where some guy had the same sounding problem, and came to found out his security system did'nt completely un-arm itself and would not let the vehicle have fuel and spark. He set and disarmed the system a few times and it cranked right up. So I went back , and sure enough--set and disarmed a couple of times, and it cranked right up!
Question is, do you guys think the position sensor still may be bad, or is the security system hang up a common problem?
Thanks for any thoughts...

Steve

It could have been a fluke, it could be a bad crank sensor.
If the crank sensor has been ordered and you are not strapped for cash go ahead and replace it and keep your old one for a spare.

Otherwise let sleeping dogs lie.

I replaced my crank sensor at 65k when doing 02 sensors and chalked it up to keeping my vehicle reliable. It was $80 from a forienge parts store and came in a factory Land Rover box...sweet. Hopefully it will last for another 65k and I have bigger fish to fry like head gaskets.

That is good thinking, IF I were to own a DII I think I would just replace it every 60,000 miles since they seem to fail in the 60-70k range.

Good idea---I think it would be a smart thing to do---a tow truck would cost me 2-3 times that cost!
Thanks.
