Can I use an 02 fan with a Hayden HD fan clutch on my 04? It is cheaper (better?) that replacing the entire 04 fan/clutch assembly. Or can I just replace the fan clutch and re-use the 04 fan? Why did LR change the design for 03/04?

Yes you can use the 02 fan with Hayden Hd Clutch. You have to buy the whole shooting match when you get the 04, they are not separable. Previous Owner had already changed to previous style on my 03.

 

Make the fan more dangerous. Also to reduce # of parts & make replacement of clutch more expensive.

Purchased a new Britpart fan from Lucky8 eBay store, Hayden clutch from Rockauto and attaching bolts from Napa.

That is very true. Clutch/ fan combo for the 04 is often more expensive than buying an old fan with a hayden clutch.

However, I gotta hand it to LR. My truck has 100k on it and it still has the original fan and clutch. In fact, it feels like the clutch is in better shape than the one on my new Toyota. Just wanted to put that out there.

 

I bought a fan from Paul and ended up installing the Hayden into that one. I would go that route.

Or the electric if you are interested in spending the time.
