Default 02 SAI Radiator ??

Okay so my 02 with SAI had the radiator replaced just before I bought it. Only problem being the previous owner had a non SAI radiator installed. I got a CEL with P0117 shortly after owning it, and thats when I discovered the non SAI radiator installed in my SAI equipped D2. I found the wiring harness for the coolant sensor zip tied out of the way.

My question is, can I put a certain OHM resistor across the sensor wiring to stop the CEL or am I honestly stuck having to replace the radiator? Just really didn't want to replace it since it cools fine. I'd also need a new sensor.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

We sell only the SAI radiator. It has a plug on it for those trucks without SAI. I would check the radiator to make sure it isn't just plugged. You might get lucky. If its not there, then a new radiator is in your future. That or an eternal CEL.

I have a really nice, newer SAI radiator for sale. Pressure tested. $100 shipped. If you're interested let me know.

I had to put a radiator in my 2002 as a test (see thread titled "running hotish"
Installed the rad out of my 2000 non air injected d2.
Same issue, rad was the same except no hole for the sensor in the passenger side lower rad tank.
I temporarily left the sensor plugged in and tie wrapped it out of harms way. No problems, no codes. Still have not figured what that sensor is for. Gauge works, data is correct, cooling fan works properly.
As soon as I unplug the sensor from the harness p0117 sets.
Can anyone explain what that sensor is for?

I'm not sure exactly which sensor is which, but there could be a temp sensor for the gauge, one for the fan and one the computer uses to monitor coolant temperature. That way it knows when to use cold start functions and that sort of thing. Usually if it's unplugged, the reading drops to -40 degrees. You can use a scan tool with live data and see what the computer is showing for a coolant temp.
Also, sometimes the gauge runs off of the sensor the computer monitors, but not always. I haven't messed around with the one on my Rover in a while, but I think the gauge and computer sensors are different. Don't quote me on that, it's been a long time.

Well trying to get a coolant temp sensor for the radiator at any local auto store was a joke... They only list 99-02 temp sensors and it cross referenced as the same sensor used on a 98 D1....

I found two different ones online but since mine was missing I had no idea what it originally looked like. I went ahead and bought the sensor they had at Auto Zone, connected it, reset the fault, and did several start/stop on/off cycles with no CEL. Was feeling pretty happy with the results until I pulled into the driveway and SRS lights up lol. Gotta love trying to keep the dash lights off. Reminds me of my RRC days.

I secured the temp sensor between the oil line/lower radiator hose, and it gets warm so it hopefully will keep the CEL off. I hate to rig stuff like that, but it just stinks that the radiator is new, but the incorrect one.
