Default 03 Disco 2 es Automatic box

Have you any ideas. Gear changes playing up, sometimes will not change up on the lowest of hills. gets better after half hour of driving but still not right. I am losing some autobox oil and burning a lot of diesel.

When was the last time you changed your fluid? Do you have any check engine lights on for the tranny, if so, what are they?
Change the fluid and filter, fix the seal leaks, before you burn up the tranny and let us know how it is going.

Hey Brian, what was it throwing for codes for the trans.? Sounds kind of like my problem only backwards. My '03 is giving me no codes for some reason, but is DEFINITELY not working properly, mine shifts okay until it warms up for about 10 or 15 minutes then starts playing up... not shifting down into the lower gears when starting up a hill, or accellerating. Mine apparently thinks it's working properly, but it's not. At all. By the way, all the gears DO exist still you can shift it manually through all the gears, just won't do it itself. Just curious what yours is telling you, any help would be great, thank you.

Hi mate,
I started with the 2 green lights flashing then a red if I remember correctly and disco went into crawler mode. Since then no more lights but cold struggles to change up after it's warm gets better but I am not happy with it. I have had the transmission oil changed and the filter. Not a great deal of diference. Sounds like we have got opposite problems.

Hi Mike,

Had oil and filter changed, garage cleaned the transmission down took it out came back could not find any sign of a leak. I got it back went out for a couple of hours, parked in the drive other way round, sure enough next morning a 8" patch of oil on the drive. Garage said tranny oil black, oil leaking is thin and clean, it is under sump and round some metal pipes.
Disco is still bad at changing up, gets better after half an hour. On a couple of occassions put in drive nothing happens for a few moments then it bites. if you have any further thoughts would appreciate it.
many thanks
Brian

Strange, I've got no codes at all. Has yours got a leak on the cooler or radiator side? Just a thought, kind of strange they couldn't find a trans. leak at the shop. It isn't your power steering box leaking is it. (I doubt it but, could have trans. fluid in it. you never know what other owners have done) (if there were any)
