03 disco engine liner crack
I have an 03 disco with 76k miles and it has developed (apparently) a slight crack in #6 cylinder liner so that some coolant gets pushed out when I drive and some coolant leaks in when I stop. Naturally the only solution is to replace the block for $8.5k.
Q1: Does anyone know know if any of these pore-in-coolant-sealer/engine-weld-in-a-bottle stuff works??
Q2: Since it has been about the same for 1000 miles, will it get worse or just eventually wear out the hoses?
Q3: Is there any hidden warranty from Land Rover on this at such low miles? (never overheat before)
Thanks

others may have more-direct experience to apply but......
1) I recall reading about the pour-in crack sealer on one of the Range Rover pages. The person(s) who'd used it claimed to have hadpretty good results. However, like any of these products, their ability to workwill bebased on the severity of the problem. If you catch a crack/leak at it's very early stages, I suppose one of those products could keep a major repair at bay for a while. I used radiator stop-leak on an old Jeep and it worked very well (obviously, different process but similar principal). Under the circumstances, it can't hurt to try it.
2) Unfortunately, it'll get worse. Even if the crack doesn't enlarge much (and it probably will), it sounds like you're burning coolant. Over time, that'll take it's toll.
3) If you're warranty's up, I wouldn't expect any help from Rover. Unfortunately, what youconsider "such low mileage" is actually higher mileage than many of these engines havegone without a head or cylinder-related failure. That being said, Rover would never stick their neck out and make an exception for an out-of-warranty motor. If they did, they'd have a very long line of customers with their hand's out.
Also, your figure of 8.5k for a new block.....I'm assuming you're talking a brand new one from Rover? If you do get a new block, don't go that route. You could get a complete, rebuilt engine (with a warranty) for less than that.......or find a place that refurbishes blocks/engines and do an exchange. If you spend 8.5 on a new block, plus the cost ofremoval,tear-down, re-assembly and installation, you'd be spendingmore thanyour truck is worth.....no joke.

Don't use that pour in garbage. It will slow flow or even clog your radiator. Do not drive it anymore. The more you drive the more you risk melting your cats. Coolant loves to destroy cats and mess up O2 sensors. Take my word for it. How do you know it's a cracked liner and not say a blown head? For your question 2 what hoses are you referring to?
