03 disco no start need help
wats up guys i got a problem i was wondering if anyone could help me. i got an 03 discovery se7 i bought 3 months ago. i did the brakes, new spark plugs, oil change, and a battery. the problem started two days ago when i stopped to get gas truck ran fine no problem before. i go to start it back up and it cranks like a mad man but no go. then once it seem like it had cooled down a few minutes it fired right up ran perfect. got it home turned it off tried to turn it over right after i turned it off and it would fire right up four times in a row. so i thought nothing of it till the next morning i went to go to work and the truck fired right up got to work turned it off for ten mins come out to start it and it will crank but no start. removed spark plug #2 to see if i was getting spark and no spark. so i waited for like twenty mins and tried it and it fired right up i drove it around the block and back to work and shut it off and started right back up. so on my way home after work i was almost home then it died right in the middle of the road tried to restart it and it would just crank but no start. ran to the nearest store to call AAA and ran back out to the truck i figured i would try it one more time and it started right up got it home and turned it off. im thinking the crank position sensor but not sure if that the problem also one more thing when it wont start i notice the check engine light on and the battery, oil pressure light one but they go off when it will start.
sounds like Cranks pos sensor. are there any trouble codes?

When it gets hot it stops working and doesn't let the engine start, then it cools and it works.
Do you have the landrover workshop manual? if not get it here. http://www.landroverresource.com/
If you do have it, read pages 279-281 to learn more about how it works if you dont know.
The CKP sensor can fail the following ways or supply incorrect signal:
-Sensor assembly loose.
- Incorrect spacer fitted.
- Sensor open circuit.
- Sensor short circuit.
-Incorrect fitting and integrity of the sensor.
- Water ingress at sensor connector
- ECM unable to detect the software reference point.
- Ferrous contamination of crank sensor pin/reluctor
In the event of a CKP sensor signal failure any of the following symptoms may be observed:
- Engine cranks but fails to start.
- MIL remains on at all times.
- Engine misfires (CKP sensor incorrectly fitted).
- Engine runs roughly or even stalls (CKP sensor incorrectly fitted).
- Tachometer fails to work.
- Flywheel adaption reset – ferrous contamination
If the CKP sensor fails while the engine is running the engine will suddenly stall, this is because the CKP sensor has
no backup strategy. If this happens the ECM will produce a fault code that it can store in its memory. If the engine is
not running when the CKP sensor fails, the vehicle will crank but will be unlikely to start, and no fault code will be
generated. In this instance the MIL lamp will remain illuminated and the tachometer will fail to read.
Hope this helps...

thanks for the help guys just wanted to make sure before i order the sensor.ill post if it works when i get ur done. thank you so much. ps it is probally time for wires at 75000 miles
Sounds good, let us know. The warning lights are likely not a symptom, all the lights on the dash light up when you turn the key on, then go out once it is started. In the instances it just cranks and cranks but doesn't start, that would explain why you're seeing lights you don't under normal operating conditions.
Good luck with the truck.
Also, check out MVLRS.com, it's a local Land Rover club for guys in the area from Louisville all the way up to Columbus, and there are several members around Cincy & Dayton.
Cheers!
