Default 03 Disco oil pump

I have an 03 Disco that is in the VIN range for the oil pumpfailure. I had an idea to change my oilto the Ams oil or the Lucas oil that sticks to engine parts better. I’m not sure if the products do what they saybut I figure if it doesn’t hurt it may be worth it to better protect enginecomponents if a failure happens. Sincethere is a chance my oil pump will fail I’d like to have enough protection inthe engine to at least get me to the side of the road and if I’m low onpressure I can have some greater protection. I will be installing additional gauges, oiltemp, pressure, in the near future as I may be low on pressure now and not knowit. Any downsides to these oils or anyother oils that might work better? I canreplace(or pay someone to replace) the oil pump when it goes bad but I do notwant to replace the motor. Selling thetruck is not an option. Any advice onthese oils or other oil products?

How many miles on your truck?

Most (probly all) of the trucks in the bad VIN range with the original oil pumps have new engines or oil pumps at this point.

The general thought around here is it's better to run diesel oil and change it more often because these engines run so dirty. Diesel oil has more detergents than car oil. I personally run Mobil 1 w-30 TDT oil, and it's been great. If I couldn't get it, I'd run Rotella T6. You certainly can run Amsoil, but it will be expensive to change it every 6k miles.

79k miles on the truck, after reading threads it looks like replacing the pump may not fix the problem as the pump can go at any time but if it buys me time I will do it. Also, what are my options for engine replacement if I have to go that route?

I also own a 03 in the death range and mine has 114k miles on it. STOP worrying about the oil pump. Land Rover were aware of the problem and either replaced the oil pumps OR replaced the whole engine of vehicles in the death range

Do you realy think a car with a bad oil pump will get to 79k miles????

As for oils then my self and number of others on here run Shell Rotella T-5 or T-6. Cheapest place to get the oil is Wallmart

From reading the other threads on this issue it looks like Land Rover is not fixing the problems, I called local LR (just to give it a shot) and they would not offer any help. Also it looks like many of the pumps fail at different mileages.

Use Rotella 15w40 and change every 3k.

Stop worrying. Worrying cost you money.

Save your money for real issues, Like the head gaskets you'll be needing in about 10k miles.
