i know, replacing a failing oil pump is just a bandaid to the prob, but since I dont want to make a fast unresearched decision. Is there an estimated time or miles i met get before i have to worry about it again? Only reason I ask, is for my families peace of mind... we bought our disco to go on road trips & now I would be nervous thinking about any little noise or such 400 miles from home.

 

Board consensus is in the 40-50k range.

But there's no hard or fast rule as to when, exactly, it will fail.

 

Thanx for all the info, I will go & get the oil pressure checked at the shop & see how much it would be to replace the pump... for now. Any idea on how much that should cost?? & Also what shoild the proper oil pressure be on my 03 disco with 80Kmiles

Oil Pressure:

At Idle: 0.7 bar (10psi)

At 2K RPM hot: 3.4 bar (50psi)

Oh, also meant to say that you should just invest in a gauge (they're cheap) and check it yourself. It'll be a good thing to have as you should keep an eye on the pressure just to make sure. Regular pressure checks will also allow you to establish a baseline.
