03 Disco Opinion
I would like to hear your opinions on a purchase that I was thinking of making. I am looking at an 03 Disco SE7 with 143xxx miles on it. I seems to be in good shape, but needs a head liner. The only other issue is it ticks after it warms up (owner calls it a "Little" tick ). I have read many post about this and the solutions vary. The price is 4k (seems a bit steep IMHO), but I would like to hear what you think.
Thanks,
PJ

May need new front drive shaft, probably an oil pump (at least a mechanical oil pressure inspection), past time for a water pump, radiator is most likely too clogged to completely flush, price does seem steep, and that tick is not likely cheap to fix. That kinda folding money it is worth paying for a mechanic inspection. There are a lot of Discos for sale. See www.statewidelist.com to search all of craigslist in your state, indexes by metro area, gives you an idea of what is out there.

4K is not too bad a price. I would take it to an local Land rover mechanic and have them do an inspection to make sure you are in good shape. Also plan on another 1200.00 or so in the next couple of months to bring all the fluids up to spec. i.e. fresh during your ownership. and the other items on the high milage list.

Buzz,
Thanks for the input, I thought it sounded steep. I found this one on craigslist and there are a few more that are out there that I am looking at.
Mike,
I will be using it for weekend driving off road (woods, beach) nothing to severe. I might also drive it to work a couple days a week. I consider my self strong mechanically. I was a mechanic for an indy shop for about 6 years (worked on Honda, Acura, Toyota, and Lexus) then I moved into Pharmaceuticals. Now I work on High Speed Filling, Inspection, and Packaging Equipment (about 10 years now).
