Default 03 Disco rolled 100,000 miles and still going

Today was a very grand day for the Rover and I.

At about 6:15am, along the great Pacific Coast Highway we successfully conquered the 100,000 mile mark. She didn’t blow up, choke on oil, collapse on the side of the road, or even sputter. It was a good day.

I drove my 91Nissan 4x4 through 320,000 miles before surrendering her to a new owner. A soul more brave than mine; the new owner intended to drive the truck to Chile where it would spend its remaining days. I hope they made it.

Shooting for 400,000 miles on the Rover.

Very nice, that'sfairly high mileage for an '03.

I always used towonder what sort of person buys a vehicle with well over 200K on it. Then I bought one with 240k miles on it and I've had basically no problems with it, nor do I expect to. Weird, but I've never seenatrucksent to the scrap yard from old age. In my experience, they become un-road worthy at some point and end up as a farm vehicle until they rust to nothing.

So what took you so long, I expected to see you clearing the 120K service by Christmas. Keep up the good work and stay away from the dealer for a happier Disco.

I put a hand written “for sale” sign in the window of the Nissan and 2 hours later a guy called and wanted it, cash in hand. He said it was perfect for his journey down to South America. I explained that the truck had over 300,000 miles on it and the only mechanical part I had replaced was the starter.

I even confessed that I had NOT changed the oil or filter in over 100,000 + miles. The power steering pump leaked over an ounce a week, the emissions light was on so long it had burned out, and the driver’s side seatbelt was bolted to the floorboard with sheet metal screws. Upon inspection, he removed the air filter cover and to my surprise the filter was gone. I assume the guy at Jiffy Lube never put it back in (previous 100,000 mile oil change).

Needles to say, taking care of the Nissan was not on the list of priorities. I truly believed the more I neglected it the better it ran!

I almost felt bad taking the $1,000.00 for it, but the guy insisted that it was a good car handed me the cash and signed the CA release of liability paperwork. I didn’t have the Pink Slip with me and the guy explained that in Chile all you need is the “key” and the vehicle is considered yours. No pink slip necessary.

Curiously, I asked when he was leaving and he said, “In the morning”.

People driving to Chile do!!!!!

Nice going! Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that'03 can go the distance with no major problems. Although I'll probably be trading upat least 6 months beforemy warranty expires so I can get the maximum resale price. She won't see much more than 60k with me. It'll be a sad day when that time comes...I'm so attached to her [sm=Awwww.gif]

Funny, I had a 90 Accord I did the same thing to. Totaled it and rebuilt it three times. The car ran better the harder I beat it!! 240K on it when I sold it and big mistake.. Those Yota and Hondas are just built with better tolerance to go the miles.

I'm in the same club. My 03 passed 100,000 miles last week and it's just as good as new. Hey, maybe those 03's aren't so bad after all.

Thanks for posting the good news - it's nice to hear a positive story about a Land Rover's reliability. I hope our Disco enjoys a similarly long life (if I don't get at least 200k out of a car I feel like I haven't used it to its potential). We only have 78k on our 2003 - looking forward to many more...

That's a great story about the Nissan! Toyota's typically use a higher nickel content in their blocks which makes the iron harder and means less wear. Not sure of Honda's/Nissans. My sister had a maxima she drove the absolute wheels off of and it wouldn't die. I've got a Cadillac that just turned over 230k and runs like a champ!

100k Mi. w/o an oil change .... jeez, I hope you used Mobil 1!
