Default 03 Disco starting problems

ok, some of you may have seen this topic before, but i wanted to give some credit to the fella that did the how-to on changing plugs/wires without pulling the IM. THANK YOU!!! you saved me lots of money.

here is what i have going on.

when i go to start my rig up, she fires right up with no issues, but has problems staying running. the engine will rev up to 1500 rpm or so then start backing down to 500 rpm or so (and idles slow and rough). if i romp on the gas, she comes back for a second or two then back down again. after a couple of restarts, the truck stays running with no issues.

be aware, when this started, I got a check engine light (code P1171)

ok, i went ahead and did a tune up, new air filter, and oil change...

installed new magnecor 8mm wires as well as new bosch +4 plugs. when i pulled the old plugs, all the electrodes were white, there was some black/carbon around the edges of the plug...this is true except for the #7 cyl. that plug was black, not wet, but not really dry either so i need to keep an eye on that. (i have the plugs and can post pics if you think i need to be wary of something).

while pulling the intake apart to do the tune up, i found that the tube connecting the MAF and intake to the throttle body had broken where the sensor connects (top of the engine, near the rear of the compartment). looks like i need a new upper intake hose (damn). i did a temporary fix by sealing it with blue rtv and it seems to work (any opinions of if i can drive it?).

i fired the truck up after the plug change, and yep, it worked!!! so that was a good feeling.

i am wanting to run some seafoam in through a vacuum line, but im not sure which line to use. i also want to do a seafoam treatment in the fuel. if anyone has any tips, advice, or warnings, i would be thankful.

as far as the upper intake, any ideas on where to get one? i know the stealership could get it (at a premium), possibly british atlantic, anyone know of any salvage yards in the springs area? or maybe denver and meet me somewhere? maybe you have a parts truck....

thanks for all your help guys!!

for the intake cleaning, looking at the log section from the passengers side you will see two large vacuum hoses (one of them has a red plastic ring around it) and under those will be a rubber cap on a nipple. Pull the cap off and use a small hose to suck the seafoam in. JSYLAS has it in the tech section where you found his trick with the plug wires.

for your #7 plug my guess is that the injector is leaking a little or not closing fully and that the seafoam gas treatment will cure this issue. I dump a can in every six months or more often if I think it needs it.

www.roverparts.com is Atlantic British, and they should be able to fix you up with the hose.

That is the line to the idle solenoid. If you have an air leak there then definitely you are going to have issues with your idle. What exactly is broken? Can you try to just JB weld it?

A good epoxy may work well on repairing that crack.
As for the induction cleaning, send me your number if you want me to walk you thru it.

i slapped some blue rtv to try and seal the break, but the nipple connection to the rubber line is broken off, so i need to get this thing replaced. any idea of the proper name of the part so if i find it i can get it?

Lok up Adopt-a-part in Denver. They specialize in imports and usually have a few Discos to pull parts from. I got a few parts for my D1 from them.
