Disco I Problems Starting
Anyone have an answer for this problem. I've had my '96Disco for over a year now all problems have been easy to solve and fixup till now. This past weekend I took it trail riding and it performed beautifully it was really impressive bringing it down a rock strewn jeep trail in low range to allow the engine to do most of the braking. The only major problem cameat the water crossing. The water wasonly as high as the running boards and at a distance of 150-200 ft, but once on the other side the engine started spitting and sputtering I managed to keep it going but it really had a lot of trouble and lack of power more so then normal. The Disco had a hard time making it back up the mountain. Once on top we stopped for a10-15 minutes with the engine offto view the Elk. Then we got back in and it fired right up only to stall out a 1/4 mile down the road. The temp gauge never moved any where close to hot, but it did feel quite hot under the hood. We left it up on the mountain and piled into my buddy's jeep and headed down the moutain tograb a bite toeat. A few hours later he returned and it fired right up with out any problem. Drove it back to camp without any further problems. Even drove it around the back roads the next couple of days with out any more problems. On the way home, however itstalled out 20 miles or so awayfrom camp and I ended up having it flat bedded home the last 80 miles. Since then I'vetried several times to start it with out any luck. I've been looking through the shop manuel to diagnose where the problem might be, but it really doesn't give much ideas in the way of trouble shooting. The battery is fully charged, the starter is working and is only a month old. I've looked at some past threads on here and I've noticed that it sounds partly like a bad fuel temp sensor, but has anyone experinced it not starting at all with a bad sensor? Anyideas greatly appreciated. I figure tomorrow I'll replace the fuel filter to see if that could be my problem (I hope only because I know that's a cheap fix compared to a sensor).
More than likely you have a wet electrical connection .
I would start with the fuel pump, and work from there with dielectric grease.
Make sure the pump is still good.
On the outside chance reset the fuel cut off button / next to the window washer jug/
Then do the crank sensor. If this out you wil have no spark.
Thats all I can think of that will stop the motor after its started and not set the CEL/MIL,
and keep it from starting once either has gone out.
Try some starting fluid to see if its fuel or spark, don't spray it through the mass air flow sensor.
